What Kind of Person…

Heard a very interesting challenge on Jack Spirko’s podcast on 9.6.13. It’s simple, but enlightening. So much so, I’ve started my own list. The challenge was to finish this sentence:

“What kind of man…”

It’s an interesting exercise in introspective. I say introspective because the entire point of the exercise is to point at others and identify flaws …and then realize that you also have the exact same, or at least strikingly similar ones. It’s pretty humbling, IMHO, but only if you can be honest with yourself. If you can’t do that, then, well, there’s no point in reading further!

I thought about this exercise over the weekend and have decided to change it from ‘man’ to ‘person’. Not because of political correctness or other BS like that, but because these statements of fact apply to anyone, man or woman.

Anyways, here’s my list so far. I plan on adding as I think of new entries.

What kind of person…

  • …does not prepare their family for basic emergencies and common disasters, regardless of what other people say about ‘preppers’ and ‘survivalists’?
  • …puts themselves and their family at risk by not being in shape and healthy?
  • …runs up so many debts they puts their family’s future at risk financially if anything goes wrong?
  • …ignores history and passes that ignorance to their children, dooming them to repeat it?
  • …would disagree or ignore the reality around them?
  • …refuses to take responsibility for their own actions?
  • …has the audacity to judge another person on anything, knowing that no one is perfect or “better” than anyone else?
  • …uses mere opinion in a discussion yet dismisses another’s equally valid opinion?
  • …holds words or actions against another, without giving them the chance to explain and talk things out?
